WaitlistBeginner Green Wood CarvingFine Arts & CraftsCarving fresh, found wood into useful objects is a fun, relaxing, and satisfying hobby. We will cover an overview of “green” woodworking, including tools, materials, process, technique, and safety. We will talk through the early part of the process of turning a log into a rough carving blank with an axe. Then you will learn safe, effective knife grips so you can carve your project. We’ll wrap up with a discussion on finishing touches, decoration possibilities, and how to continue in the craft. Butter Spreader/Cheese Knife: Wooden spreaders, present in nearly every Swedish kitchen, were traditionally hand-carved. Yours will be great for spreading butter and also soft, medium, and crumbly cheeses. This single-session class is perfect for complete beginners. Wooden Spoon: The serving spoons we’ll make have an extra-large bowl for generous helpings and a stout handle for ease of use. No prior experience is required, but some familiarity with woodworking, carving, or other handcrafts would be beneficial for this two-night class.Winter 2026 -
Braid-In Rug MakingFine Arts & CraftsTransform upcycled fabric into a beautiful, one-of-a-kind rug for your home. Rag rugs have a long history across cultures as a way to give new life to used textiles. Learn to repurpose bedsheets into rags and weave them into a rug using the braid-in method. There’s no sewing, knitting, or crochet required. You’ll also learn how to adapt the braid-in process for other creative projects. Most materials provided. New and returning students welcome. Embroidery 101Fine Arts & CraftsLearn the basics of embroidery. We’ll start with a practice swatch to explore the different stitches. Then you’ll have the opportunity to create and complete a structured design you can display in your home. Embroidery rewards patience and focus. While it moves at its own pace, it’s also forgiving, making it ideal for anyone who wants to create with their hands without fear of mistakes. Some materials provided. Open to new and returning students. NOTE: Students should bring a pair of scissors to each class (embroidery or other sharp scissors are fine.) Explore its features and menus, then get a clear overview of photography basics, including shutter speed, ISO, aperture, focus, and more. Learn how lighting and composition can enhance your images, and gain confidence capturing a range of subjects, from portraits and landscapes to street photography. Elevate your skills from simply taking pictures to creating compelling photographs. Please note: Bring your camera to each class. Fused Glass Workshop: Seder Plate or Decorative BowlFine Arts & CraftsLearn the basics of glass fusing while designing and creating either a large seder plate or a decorative 13-inch bowl. Work with glass sheets, frits and powders, stringers, and confetti and copper inclusions. Seder plates can be decorated with symbolic items of the Passover celebration. Your creation will be fired in the instructor’s kiln and then slumped over a special mold to give your piece its particular shape.Winter 2026 -

Explore the history and basic chemistry of soapmaking, safety considerations, and essential materials. After coloring your soap with micas, herbs, spices, and clays, you’ll add scents and prepare your mold, then learn techniques for insulating, cutting, curing, and storing your finished soap. You’ll take home a customized batch of soap, the mold, and detailed handouts to continue making soap on your own. NOTE: For safety reasons please wear or bring a long-sleeved shirt. Create your own simple or more complex mandala using needle and thread, starting with some basic guidance. Patterns will be available, but you will be encouraged to develop your own design. With one-on-one personalized guidance, you’ll navigate from an idea to project completion, advancing your skills along the way. The instructor will help you determine which metals and stones to purchase before the first class. Prerequisites: Students enrolled in this class should have completed three beginner-level classes in metalsmithing technique and/or possess basic skills such as soldering, sawing, flex shaft use, sanding/polishing, and be able to work safely with basic shop tools and equipment. WaitlistStained Glass: Exotic GardenFine Arts & CraftsCreate beautiful stained glass works of art by shaping and assembling pre-cut glass petals and bending brass and copper stems. These stained glass classes cover the basics of the Tiffany-style copper foil method. You’ll learn to foil, burnish, flux, solder, and apply patina while exploring the basic chemistry behind this science-heavy art form. There will be no patterns to follow, giving you the freedom to explore your creativity with playfulness and push your creative boundaries. Take an individual class or multiple to build upon skills and add to your stained glass garden. Please note: Instructor will provide all safety gear, masks, eyewear, heatsafe gloves, finger covers, but you should always be extra careful around sharp and hot objects. Learn how to transform plain white eggs using a special pen and melted wax, then color them with vivid dyes. First, learn how to repair holes, tears, and stains in clothing made of woven fabrics using fabric patches and simple hand embroidery stitches. Then we will concentrate on darning, a fabric mending technique for woven or knit fabrics that involves reinforcing or re-weaving a portion by hand. Learn about tools and materials for visible mending and make a sampler of both techniques that you can refer to later. No hand sewing or mending experience required. Please note: Feel free to bring with you any clothes you would like to repair or reuse, fabric scraps, or add on embellishments that you would like to use.Winter 2026
