Cyanotype ExplorationsFine Arts & CraftsOne of the earliest photographic techniques, cyanotypes (also called blueprints or sunprints), let you create unique images using natural and found objects. These workshops are beginner-friendly and perfect for anyone curious about alternative photographic processes. A Taste of Cyanotype (One Night): Create striking blue-and-white prints using natural and found objects like leaves, flowers, lace, and jewelry. Go home with 8–10 original designs and a new appreciation for the beauty of natural light and texture. Go Deeper with Cyanotype (Two Nights): The first night covers the basics of the historic sun-printing technique and includes creating your own set of blue-and-white designs on paper and fabric. We’ll also discuss other ways to create your own prints at home. On the second night, return with your prints to explore toning techniques that shift the cyanotype’s signature blue using tea, coffee, turmeric, and more, and experiment with larger or wearable fabric pieces.Spring 2026 -

WaitlistMake Your Own Cold Process SoapFine Arts & CraftsLearn how to make your own vegetable-based natural soap from scratch using the cold process, which blends oils with a lye mixture. Explore the history and basic chemistry of soapmaking, safety considerations, and essential materials. After coloring your soap with micas, herbs, spices, and clays, you’ll add scents and prepare your mold, then learn techniques for insulating, cutting, curing, and storing your finished soap. You’ll take home a customized batch of soap, the mold, and detailed handouts to continue making soap on your own. NOTE: For safety reasons please wear or bring a long-sleeved shirt. The instructor will help you determine which metals and stones to purchase before the first class. Prerequisite: Students enrolled in this class should have completed three beginner-level classes in metalsmithing technique and/or possess basic skills such as soldering, sawing, flex shaft use, sanding/polishing, and be able to work safely with basic shop tools and equipment. We will cover casting on, casting off, the knit stitch, the purl stitch, picking up dropped stitches, adding a new ball of yarn, seaming, and weaving in the ends. Depending on time and interest, we may also explore knitting in the round, as well as simple texture, color work, and shaping by adding a basic cable, making stripes, and using increases/decreases. This class is for beginners and those looking for a refresher. Please note: Materials will be provided for the first class. Once you decide on your project, you will be guided on what to purchase.
