During each session, you will play 8–12 pre-dealt hands with your classmates. The Muddy River, a significant part of Frederick Law Olmsted’s Emerald Necklace—a string of interconnected parks—winds from Boston Common to Franklin Park. In many places, it is hidden by stone walls, overgrowth, and city streets. A recent $93 million restoration project aimed at flood control has brought new visibility to this long-overlooked waterway. We’ll follow the river’s path from Brookline Village to the Charles River in Back Bay, visiting the Dutch House, Longwood, the Landmark Center, and the Fens, with its rose garden, war memorials, and victory gardens. CPR & First Aid: Adults, Children & InfantsWellness & LifeThis American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED course trains participants to provide first aid, CPR, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in a safe, timely, and effective manner. Expect to learn about adult and child CPR and AED use, infant CPR, first aid basics including choking, medical emergencies, injury emergencies, environmental emergencies, preventing illness and injury, and opioid-associated life-threatening emergencies. This intensive, three-hour course is for anyone with little or no medical training. Participants will be emailed a course completion card, valid for two years. Educators and students can register at a reduced rate. Please register first and then email us within 24 hours and we will refund you for the amount. Cane a ChairFine Arts & CraftsFix a family heirloom, create a keepsake, or rescue a chair from the trash. Bring a chair you want to re-cane to the first class. It should be light enough to carry and have a series of holes in the wood rail around the seat opening. We’ll prepare the chair, determine the cane size you need to purchase, and discuss how to order materials. Leave the final class with a restored chair and a new hands-on hobby. Please note: Students should send a photo of their chair to Kevin (kevinfbsmith@gmail.com) to confirm that it is the correct type of chair.
