Unleash your creativity by building worlds and bringing your ideas (and your toys) to life frame-by-frame through the art of stop motion animation. From conceptualization to execution, you will write, storyboard, direct, photograph, and animate a mini-movie using Stop Motion Studio. End the week with a screening of the movies we make.

Discover what it takes to turn a story on the page into a play on the stage. Let’s explore what makes a good story and work together as an ensemble to bring some of our favorite stories to life. We’ll practice writing dialogue, create interesting characters with our bodies and voices, and play theater games. Then we’ll set the scene by making our own costumes, props, and set pieces.

Bring your favorite stuffed friend for a week of creative adventures. Paint portraits, make colorful accessories, and play veterinarian at our very own stuffed animal hospital. Play games like Stuffie Says and Freeze Dance, put on a talent show, and join a stuffed animal parade. The week wraps up by building cozy rooms using recycled materials for our furry, feathery, and fluffy pals.

Grades 3-4: Here is an excellent opportunity to continue playing your string instrument during the summer months. Together, we will learn new techniques and perform a variety of fun music. For children who have participated in the first year of the APS string program or who have had at least 10-12 lessons using the first book of Essential Elements for Strings or the Suzuki method. Grades 5-10: We will form small chamber groups as well as play together as an orchestra to explore music from classical, pop, and jazz or create new compositions of our own. Rehearse and present a fully staged theater production in just two weeks! This full-day program for acting and singing enthusiasts will be led by the Ottoson Middle School drama team. Journey “under the sea” with Ariel and her aquatic friends in The Little Mermaid JR., adapted from Disney’s Broadway production and the motion picture, and based on one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most beloved stories. Create personalized tees you’ll love to wear. Learn basic sewing skills as you design and collage quilted patches using fabric scraps to make animals, flowers, funny faces, or anything you can imagine, then sew them onto a new tee. Give your old shirts new life by painting, drawing, and sewing on fabric patches to give them a fun, imaginative twist.

Taekwondo is a Korean martial art famous for its lightning-fast and powerful kicking techniques. This Olympic sport is the most widely studied martial art in the world. You will practice striking and self-defense moves and learn a series of traditional forms as we focus on achieving disciplined bodies and minds through fitness and exercise.

Tai chi is both a cultural experience and an excellent way to exercise and improve balance and coordination. These classes are taught by a 6th-generation tai chi master and native of China and will focus on accuracy, consistency, and fluency to further strengthen your body’s balance. All Levels: This class explores the first 16 of the 88 postures in the traditional Yang style tai chi long form. Learn steps, hand movements, balance, and form. The instructor provides individual attention and a strong sense of the history and context in Chinese culture for these movements. Continuing: We will expand on the principles and postures introduced in the All Levels class, focusing on the next 32 postures. Refine your form and fluidity and increase your strength and flexibility as you continue your tai chi journey.

You’ll assemble your own bespoke tabletop garden and walk away with something alive, thriving, and beautiful to breathe fresh life into any room. This is a wonderful and simple way to reconnect with the natural world. Please note: We’ll provide the plants, soil, and stones as well as a container and tools to use. If you’d like, you can bring your own container, gardening gloves and snips.
