Our starting locations will vary and include Arlington, Weston, Maynard, Chelmsford, and others. We will ride about 25 miles, maintain an average pace of 12 mph, and climb some hills—because New England is definitely not flat! Note: Riders must wear helmets and have recently tuned road or hybrid bikes with fully inflated tires. Electric assist bikes that you must pedal are also welcome. These stained glass classes cover the basics of the Tiffany-style copper foil method. You’ll learn to foil, burnish, flux, solder, and apply patina while exploring the basic chemistry behind this science-heavy art form. WaitlistStrength & ConditioningFitness & DanceBuild strength and condition your muscles and joints through a structured routine. After a dynamic warm-up, we’ll move into a sequence of exercises using both weights and bodyweight. The session ends with core-strengthening finishers and a short stretch. This format will be repeated for several weeks, allowing time to refine form, improve breathing, and gradually increase weight. The routine will be modified every few weeks to ensure continued progress and challenge. Summer Solstice WalkOut & AboutThe summer solstice marks the longest day (and shortest night) of the year and the day when the midday sun reaches its highest point in the sky. We’ll celebrate the start of summer with a walk focused on plant ID. Hear tales and legends about the plants we see and enjoy a little poetry and solstice lore. Summer StringsIn the SpotlightGrades 3-4: Here is an excellent opportunity to continue playing your string instrument during the summer months. Together, we will learn new techniques and perform a variety of fun music. For children who have participated in the first year of the APS string program or who have had at least 10-12 lessons using the first book of Essential Elements for Strings or the Suzuki method. Grades 5-10: We will form small chamber groups as well as play together as an orchestra to explore music from classical, pop, and jazz or create new compositions of our own. Summer Theater IntensiveIn the SpotlightRehearse and present a fully staged theater production in just two weeks! This full-day program for acting and singing enthusiasts will be led by the Ottoson Middle School drama team. Journey “under the sea” with Ariel and her aquatic friends in The Little Mermaid JR., adapted from Disney’s Broadway production and the motion picture, and based on one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most beloved stories. Get a taste of performing or grow your talent and confidence in a supportive and creative environment. This program will culminate with an evening performance that will be open to the public on August 14. Sunset & City Lights Kayak TourOut & AboutAfter a quick introduction to kayak strokes, we’ll launch our double kayaks and begin our sightseeing. We’ll paddle past the Great Dome of MIT, cross the Charles to the Esplanade, and take in the skyline, including the Hancock and Prudential buildings, Citgo sign, State House dome, and the financial district. After viewing a beautiful sunset and illuminated skyline, the guide will talk about the history and architecture of the city, then the group will enjoy a serene and quiet paddle back to the dock.
