Each week, we’ll learn about a different creature, from clever octopi to waddling penguins, mighty polar bears, tall giraffes, and trumpeting elephants at the watering hole. Get wild with your creativity as you experiment with drawing, painting, oil pastels, and sculpture to capture each animal’s unique features.

Experiment with clay to create a variety of imaginative and useful objects. We will discuss form and function and practice hand-building techniques (pinching, coiling, and slab building) as well as surface decoration as we sculpt functional and abstract pieces of art.

Explore the art of visual storytelling through comics and digital animation. Plan your shots, design storyboards, and develop original characters with personality and flair. Turn your hand-drawn comic into a digital creation using Procreate, then bring it to life frame by frame to create a short animated story.

Stretch your creativity with digital art tools as you draw, paint, and experiment with color, shapes, and layers. Create imaginative digital images and learn how to build on your ideas, turning simple designs into bold, eye-catching artwork that shows off your creativity.

If you love to draw, join us for an art adventure. We will play drawing games, design imaginary creatures, and be inspired by our surroundings. We’ll use classic drawing materials as well as paint sticks, watercolor pencils, and sparkle markers to invent magical worlds made of pizza hills and ice cream clouds and endless other possibilities.

Learn to hand sew three-dimensional “puffies” out of felt—everything from food, animals, shapes, and even emojis. We’ll sew and stuff our puffies, then embellish them with sparkles and embroidery. Create your own designs or find inspiration from the class.

Get an introduction to the vibrant world of fiber arts, where you’ll use many different mediums and age-old techniques to create cute, squishy, and fun friends to take home. Some projects will be inspired by video games, cartoons, and pop culture, while others will be driven by your own creativity. We’ll cover as many fiber arts as time allows, including hand sewing, felting, embroidery, weaving, and pom-pom making.

Unleash your creativity by making bracelets, necklaces, or other wearable items using both typical and unusual materials. To show you what jewelry can be, we’ll turn to history to see what people from different ages and places like to wear. Whether you decide that your look is bright and bold or simple and straightforward, you’ll assemble a collection of fantastic fashion items.

Turn wood into something special by building a step stool, wall clock, and tic-tac-toe board. You’ll plan, assemble, and personalize your creations while learning to safely use tools like screwdrivers, mallets, and hammers. Then sand and paint each project to make it special.

Incorporate personal design touches as you learn or refine fundamental metalsmithing skills in this all-level jewelry-making workshop. Beginning makers will fabricate a textured sterling silver band ring and a pendant with a bezel-set stone. Students with prior experience in metalsmithing/jewelry can further develop their skills with sterling silver while fabricating earrings and making a chain link bracelet. Multiple soldering and finishing techniques will be covered, and individual design is encouraged. No class 5/26

Get ready to explore the playful possibilities of printmaking. You’ll create awesome, one-of-a-kind works of art using all sorts of cool printmaking techniques. Stamp with potatoes, make prints with leaves, and even use squishy stuffed animals (don’t worry—the instructor will provide the plushies). You’ll also create multicolored, layered images with styrofoam and design your own mandala prints using foam and cardboard.

Make fantastic creations, including bags, pillows, and stuffies, as you learn how to sew both by hand and using a sewing machine. Each week we’ll have “sew” much fun as we alternate between hand and machine stitching.
