From Fungi to Foraging

Explore the fundamentals of fungi and how to apply that knowledge to safe mushroom foraging in New England. Learn essential vocabulary and key ecological facts, as well as mushroom anatomy and classification. Discover genera commonly found in New England, including Boletes, Amanitas, Russulas, Chanterelles, Craterellus, Hydnum, Pleurotus, and more. Build the confidence to identify both edible and non-edible mushrooms in our area.
Jana Harris
Jana Harris is local to the North Shore of Massachusetts but grew up in Europe. As a child, she foraged mushrooms with her aunt in the Czech Republic and rediscovered the love of all things Fun(gi) here in New England. Jana is a member of the Boston Mycological Club, Rhode Island Mycological Society and Fungal Diversity Survey which support and promote awareness and knowledge of Mycology in Massachusetts and beyond. Jana founded Essex Forays to offer guided mushroom walks/lectures for local schools, homeschooling groups and private individuals. She was recently certified in Wild Mushroom Food Safety.
