Canasta: Beginner

Fun, strategic, and surprisingly addictive, Canasta is more popular than ever with adults of all ages. Using Modern American Canasta rules, you’ll learn the basics and pick up strategies to play with confidence. Each session combines instruction with supervised play, so you can practice as you go. Enjoy a brain-boosting game, make new friends, and experience one of the most social card games around. All skill levels are welcome.

Emily Shire is a Modern American Canasta Instructor in the Greater Boston Area. Emily learned to play Canasta as a kid and has been playing ever since. Emily is a game enthusiast and wishes to spread the love of canasta to the greater community. By day, Emily is a high school special education teacher. She brings her professional knowledge of teaching, learning and curriculum development to break down the game in a friendly and approachable way. She knows the game inside and out and has taught Canasta to hundreds of students. Emily and her mom, Bev, both teach Canasta and have created a highly visual curriculum where we play, play, play! Classes use a step-by-step approach to help increase your confidence and master the game! Emily is known for her instructional handouts and cheat sheets that aim to make every lesson a fun and accessible experience.
