The Real Troubadours
Who were the real troubadours? These men and women, credited with “inventing” romantic love, composed and performed music in 12th century southwest France. We will explore their work and marvel at their brilliance, considering the clues and evidence that remain: lavishly illuminated medieval manuscripts; gorgeous lyrics of love, humor, and autobiography; surviving melodies in square note notation; and performances by modern musicians who bring new life to their songs.
