Shed Your Stuff the Green Way
Perhaps you’re getting ready for a house cleanout, or you’ve just pledged to yourself to live a more minimalist lifestyle. Where can you get rid of all kinds of random stuff? We’ll look hyper-locally at donation, reuse, and recycling options you may not have considered. Arlington has been weaving a valuable web of connections with nonprofits in our area in an effort to maximize the best use for the items our residents no longer need. Recent changes to state waste ban laws may impact your options, and you’ll want to know how. To help you make this huge task a little lighter, we will provide handouts to guide you and shed light on why you can feel okay about making these sometimes hard choices about rehoming your possessions.
Charlotte Milan
Charlotte started recycling circa 1970 by helping her mom smash different colored glass bottles into different trucks at the local transfer station. After studying Anthropology, social work, and business, she was finally prepared to put those together and go back to waste reduction as the Town of Arlington's recycling coordinator in 2012. As a lifelong volunteer herself, Charlotte saw the power and possibilities with that dedicated workforce, and welcomed as many volunteers as she could find to help launch the Arlington DPW Recycling Center. Now in her eighth year working around waste and its reduction, Charlotte recognizes the deep environmental commitment of the people around her. She strives to co-create projects and programs that excite this community of waste reducers, as well as bring our town into the forefront of environmental stewardship.
