Pottery
Pottery is one of the oldest expressions of human inventiveness and creativity, dating from before the Neolithic period and discovered in various locations around the globe. Explore the potentials of clay by creating both functional vessels and sculptural forms in this class for beginners. Learn basic handbuilding, wheel throwing, and surface decorating techniques. All work will be glazed and fired, resulting in vibrant, durable, waterproof, and food-safe pieces of art. Tuition includes all materials.
Melody Wolfe Thomas
Instructor
Melody Wolfe Thomas attended Virginia Tech and Radford University, also in Virginia. She has a Master's degree in Art and currently teaches Ceramics and Sculpture at Arlington High School. She has also been a faculty member at Mudflat Studios in Somerville and The Arlington Center for the Arts. Melody has been working in clay for over twenty years. She creates sculptural work and functional stoneware often including decorative elements inspired by nature.
